Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

• If a 5th grader is a rising 6th grader in the fall, are they eligible for camp?

  Yes, students that have completed 5th grade but have not started 6th grade are eligible to attend.

• Can a child attend camp who is not from one of the counties where Gulfside Healthcare Services provides care?

  Yes, children from outside Gulfside's service area can attend the camp. Please fill out the registration information to learn more.

• Can children participate even if their loved one was not on hospice services?

  Yes. Any child who is grieving a loved one may attend.

• Is there a charge to attend camp?

  No, there is no charge to attend. 

• Can my child come to camp if their loved one is currently on hospice?

  Unfortunately, children are not able to attend camp before the death of a loved one. Although anticipatory grief is a very real part of the grief process, the camp is designed specifically for elementary school aged children who are grieving after a death has occurred in their life. The activities and discussions focus on experiences related to loss after death, so attending beforehand would not be most beneficial support for the child.  

• How long after the loss should I wait for my child to attend camp?

  There is not one "right" amount of time to wait. Every child grieves differently. As part of the camp introduction, every child and parent/legal guardian will have opportunities prior to camp day to discuss all questions and concerns about the child's emotional readiness for camp as well as what to expect during that day. 

• What is the process for my child to have a place at Gulfside Days of Hope Kids Bereavement camp?

  Our goal is to make sure you feel at ease and confident while your child is with us on the day of camp.
  

  • Fill out the online application and submit.
  • You will be contacted to confirm placement and then sent a packet of information regarding camp
  • A bereavement counselor will contact you and your child to ensure your comfortability regarding your child attending camp
  • There will be a brief parent/legal guardian online Teams orientation in July to answer any questions you may still have at that time

• How do I know my child is safe with the adults facilitating the camp?

  All adults, whether staff or trained camp volunteers, have been fingerprinted and have passed a Level 2 background screening. No one adult is ever alone with one child at any time.

• How can I make donations (in-kind or monetary) to support camp?

  Your donations are welcome! Please contact our Philanthropy team at Giving@Gulfside.org or 727-845-5707 to learn how you can ensure the Days of Hope camp remains free for any grieving child wishing to participate.
